Statement from Sheriff Dave Rosado
on the Chesapeake Sheriff's Race
I want to begin by expressing my deepest appreciation to everyone who supported me throughout this campaign. those who cast their vote for me. volunteered their time, offered encouragement. and believed in our message of unity, respect. and service. From the very beginning. this campaign was about the people of Chesapeake and the belief that our community deserves leadership grounded in integrity and compassion.
Although we did not achieve the outcome we had hoped for. I remain profoundly grateful and optimistic about the future of our city. Chesapeake is a strong and resilient community, built on the dedication of its citizens and the commitment of the men and women who serve in the Sheriff's Office.
To the winner of this race, I extend my congratulations, and a challenge. I urge you to lead differently than you campaigned. Our city deserves a Sheriff who unites rather than divides, who builds bridges instead of walls. This election at times became about "us versus them," police versus deputies, when in truth, Chesapeake needs all of its law enforcement professionals working together. The office you now lead needs a Sheriff who respects the people within it who values their service. their experience, and their sacrifice.
Do not harm the men and women you now lead. Do not advance loyalists over those who have earned their place through years of hard work and commitment. Lead with fairness. Lead with respect. Lead with the understanding that this badge represents every person in Chesapeake, not just those who supported you.
Now is the time for healing. The time for unity. The time to serve every citizen of Chesapeake with honor and humility.
I love this city, every neighborhood. every family. every person who calls Chesapeake home. My commitment to this community will not waver. I will continue to stand for the values that brought us together: service, respect, and hope for a better tomorrow.
Thank you to everyone who believed in me and in the vision we shared. The future of Chesapeake remains bright because of you.
With gratitude and love,
